PRESS RELEASE | “Revision” – New, free, support program for people over 60 who are losing their sight

The Social Cooperative Enterprise (SCE) Black Light announces the launch of the pioneering pilot program “REVISION”, which aims to provide holistic support to people over 60 years of age who experience vision loss and is funded exclusively by the TIMA Public Benefit Foundation.

Vision loss in older age is one of the most profound changes a person can experience.

Simple movements, which were once taken for granted, can become challenges. Autonomy, self-confidence and connection with others are tested. The REVISION program is here to support those who experience this change, with respect, scientific knowledge and experience.

The program REVISION is aimed at people over 60 years of age who experience gradual or sudden vision loss due to diseases such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or other possible causes. It is implemented by the Κοιν.Σ.Επ. Black Light, which was founded by people with visual impairment and collaborates with specialized mental health professionals.

In the REVISION program you will find:

✔️ Specialized psychological support: Weekly group sessions with psychologists who are disabled people and are properly trained to support you.

✔️ Education for everyday life: Learning techniques for safe navigation in the home and outside, meal preparation, personal care, space organization and the use of assistive technologies.
✔️ Exchange of experiences and support: Respect, mutual understanding and practical solutions to enhance autonomy.

By participating in the program, individuals:

  • They will acquire new practical everyday skills.
  • They will strengthen their mental resilience.
  • They will reduce stress, isolation, and uncertainty.
  • They will discover new ways to enjoy life, with confidence and autonomy.
